When Don Cutler and his wife, Bonnie, went fishing on the little North Fork of Oregon's Santiam River in the early 1960's, they discovered a beautiful location for a golf course. A few years later, when the property was up for sale, Don and Bonnie jumped at the opportunity to make their dream a reality.

It took them 11 years to complete the first nine holes, in part because of Don's determination that the course blend into the surroundings. He transplanted 20-foot trees and built six lakes nestled into an unbelievably green, natural environment. The front nine opened in 1976, and has become a favorite for thousands of golfers. National recognition in golf magazines throught the United States has made it a must stop for players exploring Oregon courses.

Little by little, Don worked on developing the back nine as time and money permitted. Don passed away in 1998, but his children, Liz and Bruce, have been part of this family owned business since its inception, and they worked to finish his dream. The second nine holes of this exceptional course opened in June 2000.

Don Cutler is buried behind the 4th green
and on his gravestone are the words: "The heart and
soul of Elkhorn Valley".

Don's Love of golf and appreciation of nature's
majesty shines through on every single golf hole
